VPSBYTE

I often come onto webhostingtalk to look at promotional offers which are in VPS Hosting Offers section. I recently found a thread from a company named VPSByte, which had a special promotional offer (VPSByte 1 Year Anniversary - Double Space, Bandwidth, & Ram - Starting at $14.96/mo!) going on since the company was celebrating its anniversary. I looked over the thread closely, and thought I had found the perfect vps provider for me. I was interested in the GigaBYTE VPS Package, which had the following specs: 40 GB storage, 700 GB bandwidth, 1024 MB Guaranteed Ram, 2048 Burst Ram, 2 IPs, and ClientExec, 24/7
Server Monitoring, and HyperVM VPS Management for only $30 per month! This deal looked fantastic since it offered more space, bandwidth and ram than any other vps provider who posted their promotional offers in the VPS Hosting Offers section. This company was also offering management for only $5 a month!

Who wouldn't purchase a vps from them? VPSByte could be assumed to have the lowest prices on the market for the vps server specifications that were mentioned in their thread. Also, the best thing about this company was that they would let you upgrade your package to any of the other packages mentioned on the thread for free! This meant that if you first bought the MiniBYTE VPS Package, but wanted to upgrade, you could get the GigaBYTE VPS Package with the vps specs that were mentioned on the thread since you had purchased the vps when the promotional offer was valid.

This vps company was the perfect company for me until I tried clicking on their secure order links. My IPS (AT&T) would not connect to their website subdomain (my.vpsbyte.com), it was blocking it. However, I could still access the main website (vpsbyte.com), but could not order anything. I contacted their support via email and by posting on the thread that had their promotional offer, and they told me to use a proxy. Well, obviously, the proxy was going to work.

Quote:
The order link is working for me. We have had some trouble where ISP's in other countries are blocking secure subdomains, so try a proxy to verify the connection issue, as I am able to load it absolutely fine.
Now, why would a very popular IPS company (AT&T) located in the U.S. block their subdomain when it didn't block any other web hosting companies subdomain? I live in California, so I am not out of the country and therefore I should of had no problem in accessing their website. I thought that the company VPSByte wanted me to use the proxy to order the package, so that is what I did. However, since I used a proxy, the website automatically rejected the order since the order was considered "fraudulent". When that happened, I contacted their support via ticket, and told them that I needed the order to be uncanceled. They did that, and I paid by PayPal via proxy since I couldn't access the invoice if I didn't use a proxy. Once they received payment, I asked if I could get my nameserver changed, and they said I would have to reorder again. Well, since I couldn't access the website without using a proxy, I used it again to order. So the company uncanceled the order again, but didn't allow me to pay since I was considered "fraudulent" since I used a proxy again. Therefore, they deleted my account and refunded my payment. I had wasted 5 hours of my time trying to get this to work, and in the end they canceled my account! It wasn't my fault that I couldn't access their website's subdomain without using a proxy!

The company declared I was fraudulent for these reasons:
Quote:
- A proxy was made to order
- Your phone number is not in the same city as your address
- No real name was provided
- IP Address does not match address provided
- Your fraud score was over 2 (Fraud Risk Score 8.50)
I had to use a proxy to order since it wouldn't let me access their website subdomain, and should of as AT&T is a popularly used IPS company. The phone number was my cell phone number, and was registered in the same county that I lived in. Of course, it wasn't in the same city as my address since it is a cell phone number. I used DJ as my name as that is what I go by. Of course the IP Address didn't match my address as it was the proxy's IP. Even though my PayPal account was verified (46), they still canceled my account. At least the company could have contacted me via my cell phone number (why else would they require a phone number?) or by my paypal email address, but did not, and instead just outrightly canceled my account.

Frustrated, but since I still needed a vps ASAP, I tried to figure out another way to order a vps without it being considered "fraudulent". So, since AT&T was blocking the subdomain of the VPSByte website, I tried changing my dns using OpenDNS. This worked, and I was able to access their subdomain (my.vpsbyte.com). So, once again I ordered and I provided my real name (not my nickname), my address, phone number, and email address, and paid by PayPal again. This was done normally, without a proxy, since now I could access their website since I had changed my AT&T dns to the OpenDNS dns.

So, overall I had spent more than 5 hours trying to order a vps from this company. First I had used a proxy since I couldn't access the subdomain, then I paid by PayPal, and my account got canceled later. Later I changed my dns using OpenDNS, and successfully ordered a vps and paid for it by PayPal without it being considered fraudulent by the system. After all of this, I had to wait until the next day because the staff was offline. Once I woke up in the morning (today), I found out that my account was canceled, payment refunded, and my IP blocked.

This company also threatened me.
Quote:
I am now blocking your IP from our system for multiple attempts at fraudulent orders. If you attempt to order again, we will contact your ISP with the information of fraudulent activity we have.
What a joke! I had only used a proxy since I couldn't access their website and needed a vps ASAP. Contact my IPS? My IPS had blocked the subdomain of their website in the first place, and if they did contact my IPS, I could prove that I did nothing wrong. Well, now I can see that AT&T had blocked their subdomain for a reason.

This company was a waste of my time. I had spent more than 5 hours trying to purchase a vps from them in a way that wouldn't be considered fraudulent. After successfully purchasing a vps, in a non fraudulent way, my account was canceled. This is the only company that I have ever had problems with, and that my IPS blocked.

I posted this thread because I didn't want anyone else to be threatened by this company nor be considered "fraudulent". I also posted it as a warning for people interested in using this company for their vps solution. I wish you the best in finding a vps provider who actually values you, and will help you when you encounter a problem.
